Matt Perez is a Producer/Shooter/Editor with a background in science and documentary storytelling, and over five years of industry experience across National Geographic and the agency world.

Matt started off by making a Minecraft YouTube video in Middle School. This was the first and only time Matt went viral, but it gave him the terrible overconfidence to pursue film and video.

Then Matt graduated as a Genetics major at the University of Maryland, and then quickly realized that he’d rather be editing videos than genes.

Afterwards, Matt PA’d/edited for a bit at Spark Media and learned a TON. Then Matt stumbled into National Geographic’s producer team and learned a TON. Then Matt worked as a producer/shooter/editor at a creative agency and learned a TON. Matt hopes he can still learn a TON.

Matt has traveled across the US, Europe, Mexico and Caribbean filming on feature documentaries, commercials, and corporate projects of all scales and genres. His career strength lies in flexibly adapting to the creative, logistical, and technical needs of production at each stage.

Matt’s favorite part of film is when we’re an hour behind schedule and the director wants another take and camera needs to swap batts and G&E needs to fly in yet another light and the crafty’s getting cold but at the end of the day it’s just television and we get to spend time with cool people and tell cool stories.

Currently, Matt is freelancing as a Producer/Assistant Camera/Editor between DC and NYC, and is focused on the branded storytelling space. When he’s not stressing about whether he’ll ever land another gig, Matt enjoys rock climbing and attempting to sing karaoke classics.
